Thorfinn is a former Askeladd band warrior and the son of Thors, the most famous Jomsviking combatant until his defection. Thorfinn is related to the Jomsviking leadership through his mother, Helga, who is the daughter of Chief Sigvaldi and Thorkell's niece.

Thorfinn was enslaved as a punishment for striking Canute in a passion when the latter killed Askeladd, the death of which had been Thorfinn's desire for most of his life. He got his release four years later and changed his life. He is currently a travelling trader attempting to colonise Vinland with Leif Ericson.

Thorfinn's appearance remains same throughout the story. He has bushy hair, worn clothes, two knives, and an agitated, hostile expression. He is also not overly tall.

Thorfinn's face was round and cheerful as a child. He had bright, inquisitive eyes and neat hair. He doesn't appear to be particularly strong because he isn't particularly large.

Appearance:

Thorfinn's appearance remains same throughout the story. He had wild hair, worn clothes, two knives, and an expression that implies he doesn't care about anyone. He is also not overly tall.

Thorfinn has several cuts on his body, the majority of them were caused by knives. He does not develop facial scars till he is an adult. This is primarily due to the fact that he does not fight with weapons and instead tries to protect himself and eliminate his adversaries without causing any lasting damage.

In 1015, one of Ketil's visitors, Fox, attempts to frighten Thorfinn by attacking him with a sword and severing the tip of his left ear. Thorfinn, on the other hand, is unconcerned and remains still. When he and Snake were fighting over Arnheid's spouse, Gardar, in 1018, he sliced Thorfinn's face with his sword. This resulted in a long scar that began at his right temple, travelled over his right cheek, and finished next to his chin on his jaw.

Garm uses his blade to cut off another bit of Thorfinn's left ear in May of 1019. Thorfinn travels to Greece and returns to Iceland in June 1021. He has a scar across the bridge of his nose and above his cheek when he does.

Before going to Vinland, he began wearing his hair in a ponytail, which he still wears at the age of 27.

Personality:

Thorfinn is depicted at the start of the episode as a kind and pleasant youngster who wishes to go on adventures. He got along well with his family and enjoyed hearing Leif's travel stories. He had a close bond with his father and admired him much. This is demonstrated when he sneaks into Thors' boat to pursue him. This is what drove Thorfinn to seek vengeance on his father.

But by the time he joins Askeladd's band, he has turned into a cold-blooded killer determined to exact revenge on his father. He no longer cares what other people think of him and acts coldly towards them. Instead, he isolates himself. This is obvious when Thorfinn refuses to partake in the merriment and refuses to have dinner with his fellow Vikings.

His weaknesses are his rage and his tendency to act on instinct. This is demonstrated by his refusal to listen to Askeladd's advise, even when it may be beneficial to him. As a result, he loses fights against Askeladd. Throughout the book, Thorfinn's recklessness causes him a lot of trouble and failure. Even though he has a lot of ability for his age, his anger is probably his biggest drawback. Thorfinn's failure to learn from his mistakes exemplifies this flaw. He experiences hallucinations of his dead father asking him if he's on the right course several times, but he doesn't listen. This could be a metaphor for how little has changed between the old Thorfinn and the new Thorfinn, and how, within his iron fortress, he is still simply a boy with bad ideals.

He also didn't appear to mind when Askeladd's gang murdered innocent bystanders and raped women. Instead, he simply turned and walked away, disgusted. He didn't care that he occasionally advised his potential victims to flee when he didn't want to kill them.

When Askeladd died, he lost his reason for existence and became an empty shell. He was eventually sold as a slave. Thorfinn became completely unhappy, morose, stoic, and unwilling to live throughout this time. He was abused by his merchants and led a wretched existence, lacking the joy and pride of his youth as well as the courage to speak up for himself. With the support of Einar, Snake, and Sverkel, he began to regain his bravery and will to live. They demonstrated to him that he could still live a meaningful life.

Thorfinn gradually begins to feel better, and he becomes more serene and gentle. He appears to be more like Thors, wanting to become a merchant in order to become a better person and erase his horrible past as a murderer. His period as a slave appears to have influenced his behaviour. He didn't fight for a time and always attempted to talk things out. However, when this strategy failed a few times, he learned that sometimes force was required to solve difficulties. He also does not appear to have many social skills and does not appear to understand how women work. For example, after adopting Karli, he ordered Gudrid to nurse Karli, despite the fact that Gudrid would have to be pregnant to do so.

Thorfinn has also grown more empathetic to those whose villages have been repeatedly attacked as a result of war. He felt terrible after learning that he and Askeladd's gang had attacked and killed Hild's family, which gave Hild the right to kill him in retaliation for her family's death, and he was even willing to die at her hands. He is fiercely protective of the individuals he cares about. Thorfinn forces his buddies to leave and remain away when he is forced to fight in the Baltic War due to his ancestry. This makes him a target for many people who want to be the Jomsvikings' leader.
