Bookworm Adventures is a spelling-based adventure game for everyone. In this game, you take on the role of Lex, a humble reader who embarks on a journey through his library's volumes. Lex will meet and fight a broad variety of foes on his journey, including mystical animals and figures from old novels.
Fighting in Bookworm Adventures is based on spelling, which is one of the best ways to battle. A grid of letter tiles is set up at the start of each fight. Lex deciphers words by using the available tiles. The longer the word, the greater the damage. The adversaries are unconcerned about such formalities; they simply attack Lex and injure him. Some even demolish tiles, poison them to cause Lex harm, or "lock" them so they can't be used.
Tiles and objects that aren't the same as the others aggravate the situation. Special tiles contain extra abilities, such as making opponent assaults less destructive, healing Lex, or dealing damage automatically every turn. You can obtain these gem tiles by creating really good words. Lex can also gain special abilities from the stuff he discovers on his adventure. These things can heal Lex, reduce his damage, or do something else. For example, the powerful Hand of Hercules deals extra damage when Lex spells a metal's name, such as "TIN" or "BRONZE." Potions are one-time-use items that can restore Lex, strengthen his attacks, or cure him of ailments.
There are additional minigames that test your memory, language skills, and general knowledge throughout the game. If you do well in these, you will receive extra gems and liquids to aid you in your journey. As you go through the world of books, new minigames will become available for you to play whenever you have a few minutes to spare.
