Development:
The film's screenplay was written by Prasanth Neel after the release of Ugramm (2014), and development began in early 2015. However, the film was split into two parts due to the non-linear narration of the story and the commercial prospects of the film. A Times of India interview, in October 2018, quoted him as saying, "The scale of the project is huge, and we had scope for a beginning, an interval and an end, so releasing it in two parts made sense". In December 2020, Prashanth Neel confirmed that there will no be a third installment in the KGF franchise. The movie is based on a unique idea with a universal message. As part of the technical crew, Prasanth Neel has recruited composer Ravi Basrur[20] and cinematographer Bhuvan Gowda.
Promotion:
During the promotional campaign, a fictional newspaper was designed on the basis of vintage newspapers. The makers announced the new editions of the film via their social media accounts from 4 to 10 January 2021. A single teaser featuring English dialogue was released instead of five teasers in five languages. In 24 hours, it became the most-watched Indian trailer with 109 million views across five languages, making it the most viewed and liked teaser in history.
The teaser trailer was originally scheduled to be released on Yash's birthday, 8 January 2021. In the end, the makers unveiled the teaser ahead of the official launch on 7 January after some cuts of the teaser leaked on the internet.
